Microsoft Office for iOS Coming March 2013

Microsoft is the king of promoting products early that never end up seeing the light of day. According to a press release sent to The Verge, a version of Microsoft Office for iOS will be released in March of 2013.

Will this actually happen? I’d give it a solid maybe. Microsoft has definitely stepped up their game in the mobile arena recently receiving some high praise for their beta versions of Windows 8.

Furthermore, Microsoft Office has always been one of the largest selling software packages for the Mac. Finally jumping into the App Store would make a lot of sense. It would have made even more sense several years ago.

Apple isn’t struggling to convert new users to the iPad or iPhone, but one of the biggest questions asked by a new Mac user is, “Can I get Office on there?” So while an iOS version of office may cut into Apple’s iWork sales, overall this would be another great selling point for the iPad.

But, a lot can happen between now and March 2013.

WiFi only iPad mini?

Published on October 9, 2012 by in Apple, iPad, Rumors

According to the Guardian the Apple iPad mini will come in a WiFi only version to help keep costs down. The good news for Apple is that the competition, Amazon’s Kindle Fire and Google’s Nexus 7, are both WiFi-only as well.

Multiple sources contacted by the Guardian have indicated that they think the announcement of the “iPad mini” is imminent, with retail sources saying that they anticipate new products in November.

Maybe Apple should add 4G just to set itself apart. What do you think?

iPad mini Could Launch in Mid-October

Published on October 9, 2012 by in Apple, iPad, Rumors

Apple’s iPad mini is rumored to be launching October 10th, just a day away. Currently the brass at Apple have not released any official details, but here are some of the latest speculations:

1. 7.85” diagonal display
2. Display resolution 1024×768, which gives us an aspect ratio of 4:3
3. Under 8mm thick, most likely about 7.7mm
4. Apple has ordered 10 million iPad mini’s for Q4 2012

With a 7.85” screen Apple’s iPad mini will be competing with products like Amazon’s Kindle Fire HD, Google’s Nexus 7, and the Nook HD. All these competitors are priced below $200. I have a feeling that the iPad mini will be priced above the competitors somewhere between $249 and $299.

Although priced above the competition, I believe that if Apple launches a smaller tablet device, it could actually end up with a shortage of new iPad minis this holiday season. Consumers have come to recognize Apple as a manufacturer of high quality products with great customer service to boot, thanks to its team of Geniuses, and combined with its existing lineup of products, consumers are sure to buy nearly anything that comes out of Cupertino.

But, if Apple launches the iPad mini and it’s not a huge hit like the new iPad or iPhone 5 (or they do not release a smaller iPad at all), I don’t think Apple stands to lose too much profitability (or credibility) heading into the final fiscal quarter, considering the other two products took off like a rocket and continue to sell well.

I am confident though, should Apple release the iPad mini, that it will be profitable and become one of the leaders in the 7” tablet market as well. Would you purchase an iPad mini if it is released this Fall? Let me know in the comments!

iPad Mini Production in Brazil Rumored

Published on October 1, 2012 by in Apple, iPad, Rumors

It is with great excitement that many blogs will be posting this story — the iPad mini is now in its production cycle in Brazil. This according to Japanese blog Macotakara (via AppleInsider) which has been the source of many rumors in the past, many of which did not pan out.

The source of the rumor, a shocker, is unnamed and was not familiar with whether the units where being completely built in Brazil or in China as well. The source did, however, mention that the smaller iPad would not have a rear microphone, similar to the one found on the iPhone 5 (and widely rumored to be on the iPad mini).

For now, consumers may want to keep their pants on about the iPad mini — nothing has been mentioned in an official capacity from Apple. Stay tuned to Apple Approved and we’ll be sure to keep you informed!

What Will the iPad mini cost?

Published on September 27, 2012 by in Apple, iPad, Rumors

How much smaller will an iPad mini be and what will it cost?

The iPad mini has not been released, or even officially announced by Apple, and yet people are making speculations about how it will be priced against the Kindle Fire and other similar products.

Let’s take a look at a few facts:

  • Apple has not provided any type of pricing for the iPad mini
  • iPad 3 starts at $399
  • iPod touch starts at $199
  • Kindle Fire is priced at $199

I believe for the iPad mini to be competitive Apple would have to price it no higher than $249, which would put the price right between the iPod touch and the current, full-sized iPad.  The price of the iPad mini will largely depend on the manufacturing costs.

Another point that we all should keep in mind is that Google will likely enter the tablet market with a $99 device.  If this happens, Apple will have to consider a low-cost option in its product lineup.

Would Apple be willing to price a mini tablet at, or below, the cost of an iPod touch? Let me know what you think in the comments!
